ROBERT ISAACSON has enjoyed a 45-year career in New York City television, serving initially at Metromedia TV and then in the Lindsay administration, before joining CUNY TV, at The City University of New York — the country’s largest urban public university system, educating 500,000 students. In 1992 he was appointed Executive Director of CUNY TV, where he serves today. CUNY TV is the nation’s largest University non-commercial broadcast and cable television channel in the country, reaching 7.3 million broadcast households in the Metropolitan region on channel 25.3 and 1.7 million cable households in the boroughs of New York City, on channel 75, basic service. CUNY TV presents educational, cultural, and public affairs content, demonstrating our commitment to our programming philosophy: “life-long learning through quality television.”
In 2012, with the support of the Bloomberg administration, Isaacson built a new “state of the art” fileserver-based facility to house and provide technical operations support for the City of New York’s television station WNYE-TV, channels 25.1, 25.2 and 91.5 FM radio.
Isaacson established CUNY TV as a venue where non-profit arts and cultural organizations can collaborate with CUNY TV to create content that informs as well as entertains. CUNY TV produces nearly 1,000 studio and magazine programs every year. From 2012-2015 Moyers & Company was produced in the CUNY TV studios Isaacson is the Co-Executive Producer of Theater Talk, which is carried weekly on PBS and CUNY TV. It is about all things Broadway.
A Tony voter, Bob has served on the Advisory Board of the American Theatre Wing since 2005. In 2001 he was honored by the French Government with a “Chevalier de L’Ordre des Arts des Lettres” for his work in French television. He is the president of the CUNY TV Foundation. He has been a Governor of the NY NATAS chapter since 2008 and a member of the Executive Committee since 2014, where he currently serves as treasurer.
