NEW YORK – August 15, 2005 – The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced today that it will honor Robert A. Iger, CEO-Elect of The Walt Disney Corporation, with its prestigious Trustees Award. The presentation will be made at the Academy’s Trustees Dinner at the Marriott Marquis in New York City on October 20, 2005.
Leading film, television, and print executives from across the U.S. are expected to attend the ceremony, where Mr. Iger will be honored for excellence in leadership, both in the television business and in the community which serves the industry. Mr. Iger is currently president and chief operating officer of The Walt Disney Company, and will become chief executive officer on October 1, 2005
“Bob Iger personifies the extraordinary calibre of person deserving of the Academy’s highest honor,” said Peter Price, president and CEO of the National Television Academy. “Not only has he distinguished himself as a successful chief executive of a growing global enterprise, but he has at the same time managed to invest himself personally in matters of moment to his colleagues and his community.”
In addition to honoring Mr. Iger with the Trustees Award, leading television executives David Barrett, president and chief executive officer of Hearst-Argyle Television, and Sig Mickelson, first news president of CBS, will be inducted into the Academy’s Management Hall of Fame. Mr. Mickelson, who will be honored in memoriam, was a television pioneer who launched the career of Walter Cronkite and was instrumental in the development of televised political coverage.
