THE WINNERS OF THE 44th ANNUAL SPORTS EMMY® AWARDS

Bryant Gumbel Honored with Sports Lifetime Achievement Award

(New York / Los Angeles)  May 22nd, 2023 – The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announced tonight the winners of the 44th Annual Sports Emmy® Awards which were live-streamed at Watch.TheEmmys.TV and available on the various Emmy® apps for iOS, tvOS, Android, FireTV, and Roku (full list at apps.theemmys.tv/).

The live-in-person, live-streamed presentation was filled with a star-studded group of sports television personalities as presenters such as Nate Burleson (CBS Sports), Ryan Clark (ESPN), Diana Flores (NFL Network/NBC), Keiana Martin (MLB Network), Rachel Nichols (Showtime),  Tom Rinaldi (Fox Sports), David Scott (HBO), Kenny Smith (Turner Sports), Melissa Stark (NFL Network/NBC) and  Mike Tirico (NBC Sports).

Emmy®, Peabody, NAACP Image and Edward R. Murrow Award winning television journalist and sportscaster Bryant Gumbel was  presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his long, barrier-breaking career.

In addition, ESPN Sports Anchor Elle Duncan and Michael Braxton, Coca-Cola’s Senior Manager of Colleges and Universities, announced the winner of the $40,000 Coca-Cola HBCU Sports Production Grant – Florida A&M University’s “Defy the Odds.” Jonathan David, class of ‘23 accepted on behalf of the student production team which also included Aliya Chanté Everett, Breché DaValt, Tristian Hutton  and advisor Edward Thomas.

Nominations and winners were announced in 47 categories including Outstanding Live Sports Special, Live Sports Series and Playoff Coverage, four Documentary categories, Esports Championship Coverage, Outstanding Play-by-Play Announcer, Studio Host, and Outstanding Personality/Emerging Talent among others.
