Currently the Head of Awards for the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Cherie Housley has been actively involved with the organization for more than 35 years. Beginning as a Governor on the Ohio Valley Chapter’s Board in 1986, she served the chapter in various capacities including Chapter President, National Trustee and as the long-time Emmy® Awards Chairman and Administrator – a tenure that began in 1989. After many years as the chapter’s administrator, Housley took on the role of Executive Director, a job she still held in 2019 when she was asked to work part-time as the Staff Director for the National Awards Committee. In March of, 2023, Housley’s transition from part-time to a new full-time position with the National staff was complete.
In addition to awards administration, Housley has a strong background in broadcasting and video production. She started her career at WOUB in Athens, Ohio while still in college, and was fortunate enough to be one of the original staff hires when WDZL was preparing to sign on the air in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale in 1982. Two years later, she was on hand for another start-up, WRGT in Dayton Ohio, where she started in the operations department, later moving to Creative Services as a promotions producer. In 1991, she started Panoramic Productions, working as a producer, director and editor on projects for non-profit organizations as well as the local PBS station.
Housley graduated summa cum laude from Ohio University in 1982 and is the recipient of four Ohio Valley Regional Emmy® Awards as well as being a member of the Chapter’s Silver Circle.
